 Artist Statement:

Both of these figurative sculptures work together to create a three-dimensional idea of gratitude and greed in today's world. The sculpture on the left represents the side of gratitude and the idea that less is more. The sculpture is someone sprouting up from the ground with a rose as a head to show that they are connected to the Earth, as all humans are. The base was made circular to contribute to the organic style of the piece. It is coated with wood stain to make it resemble dirt without actually putting dirt on the base. Another smaller circle is placed underneath the base to give a floating effect to the whole piece. It is accented with fake moss and small stones to compliment the idea of an all natural world. The sculpture on the right is a person with a television set as a head. In today's world, media and fake news are two huge contributing factors to some of the current problems people are facing. The television set can be portrayed as a symbol of greed and ignorance. This representational concept of the television head was inspired by the saying "kill your tv" that is commonly used when discussing ethical dilemmas of money and technology. The base is painted as a skyscraper to represent the huge percentile that mass corporations contribute to regarding these ethical dilemmas involving the mater of gratitude and nature vs greed and money.
